Vaishali Kasaravalli was born on 12 April 1952 in Gulbarga to theatre enthusiast parents Nirmala and Dr. Chitagopi. She was a well noted Kannada film actor, costume designer and television serial director. Vaishali Kasaravalli completed BA. Late Dr. B.V.Karanth initiated her to theatre. After her family moved to Bangalore, She acted in many plays including Jokumaraswamy, Hayavadana, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Natakakaarana Shdhaneyalli Aaru Paathragalu and many more. Vaishali Kasaravalli also directed Sevanthi Prasanga and translated many Marathi and Hindi classic works.
She started film career in 1972 with movie "Yaava Janmada Maitri" and later Professor Huchuraya in the same year. Her most popular and remarkable films are Akramana, Yarigu Helbedi,Hombisilu, Angaialli Apsare, Kraurya, Kittu Puttu, Swamy, Thabarana Kathe, Asegoba Meesegobba, Anukolakkoba Ganda, Ksheera Sagara, Mahadasoshi Sharana Basava,Mooru Daarigalu, Panjarada Gili, Hoovondhu Beku Ballige, Chandramuki Pranasaki, Vigneswarana Vahana, Palitamsha, Parivarthana, Shanker Guru, Sparsha, Nigatha, Ganeshana Maduve, Thavarumane Udugore, Gauri Ganesha, No 73 Shanthinivasa and others. Her performance as the leading actor in Aakramana directed by her husband
won state government award for the Best actress.
Vaishali Kasaravalli also acted in many most memorable TV serials including Kasa Musure Saroja,
, Namma Nammalli, Kshamaya Daritri, Maaya Mruga, Sadhane, and Manvanthara. T. S. Nagabharana directed Namma Nammalli was the first serial she was featured in. She received many honors including the State award for acting in Aakramana. For the movie Thaayi Saheba She received national award for costume design. State award for Best supporting actress (‘Palitamsha’), Rajyotsava award and Natak Academy award.
She has also directed popular TV serials like `Moodala Mane'and '
'. Vaishali Kasaravalli ventured into politics in the 1990s. She contested for the Bangalore City Corporation elections from the Lok Shakti party in 1996 but lost. She was an admirer of former chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde. Vaishali Kasaravalli was married to National award winning and acclaimed film director Girish Kasaravalli. She had a son named Apoorva and daughter Ananya. She died on 27th September 2010 in Bangalore, after ailing for few years.
