C.V.Rajendran was a veteran Indian director. He filmed some of the memorable movies of Indian cinema such as Ponnunjal, Sivakamiyin Selvan, Galatta Kalyanam, Ullasa Paravaikal and others. He was related to director C.V. Sridhar as his cousin. Rajendran directed more than seventy Kannada, Telugu and Hindi movies in his long career.
Most of his films became yesteryear classics. Rajendran used to work with actor Shivaji Ganesan a lot, and the duo had collaborated on over a dozen movies. He took birth in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu in the year 1937. Rajendran also became a producer for a couple of films that featured Shivaji Ganesan. He started his career in 1963 as an assistant director for C.V. Sridhar.

For several years Rajendran worked as an associate and assistant director for C.V. Sridhar. He gained knowledge and experience about filmmaking before starting his directorial ventures.
In 1967, Rajendran filmed his debut movie, Anubavam Pudhumai. The Tamil film produced by T.S. Sethuraman starred Rajasri, Manorama, Muthuraman, and others. It got remade into the Bollywood movie as Hulchul in 1971. In 1968, Rajendran launched Shivaji Ganesan and Jayalalitha in the film Galatta Kalyanam.
It became the beginning of an endless era for Rajendran, Ganesan, and Jayalalitha. He also gave Shivaji’s son Prabhu a breakthrough in the industry. Once Rajendran got a start, he was unstoppable. He directed one or two films every year, be it Tamil, Kannada or Malayalam.
Rajendran worked with artists like Kamal Hassan, Rajnikanth, Rajkumar, Srinath, Ravichandran, Jaishankar, etc. In 1980, he made Ullasa Paravaigal featuring Kamal Hassan. The music given by Ilaiyaraaja became a super hit. The evergreen songs got a place in the hearts of the audience.
The film also got remade into Kannada and Hindi. Rajendran’s career that started in the 1960s went up till four decades till the 1990s. His last directorial was Chinnappadass, released in 1989. The film featured Radha and Sathyaraj.
After this, Rajendran produced a couple of movies such as Vietnam Colony and Once More, starred Shivaji Ganesan and Prabhu. On April 1, Rajendran took his last breath at the MIOT Hospital in Chennai. He left behind his legacy, his children, and his wife, Janaki Rajendran. Rajendran works celebrated fantastic storylines and memorable music.
