Hemanth Kumar

Hemanth Kumar is an Indian playback singer, popular amongst the regional audience for his work on the soundtracks of movies like Kismath (2018), Jaggu Dada Click to look into! >> Read More... (2016), Mr. Airavata (2015), DK (2015), Raja Huli (2013), etc. Mostly known for his major involvement in the music albums of Sandalwood movies and singles in the Kannada language, he has been working in the film industry as a playback singer for more than twenty-one years now. Born in Bangalore as ‘Hemanth Subramanya’ to Sri Subramanya Sastry and Smt. Rathna Sastry, a classical singer, he started learning music at the age of four. He always accompanied his mother in Carnatic performances and classical shows. For him, his first Guru has always been his mother.

He also has a sister named Chetana Krishna. Starting out with his career, he trained under the likes of Vidwan Sri R.K. Srikantan, Vidwan Sri R.S. Ramakanth, Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj, and Sri H.K. Narayana for more than ten years. During the preliminary stages of his music career, Hemanth worked as an assistant to the renowned music director Dr. Hamsalekha, who introduced him to the Kannada cinema. In 1998, Hemanth made his first notable contribution on the silver screen with the film Mr. Putsami, for which he was involved in two tracks, namely Baa Baa Baa Baare and Yaaravalu Yaaravalu. Over the years, Hemanth has been a part of several reality TV shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs, Gunagaana, Kuhu Kuhu, etc. Considering the talent and quality that Hemanth showcases, it isn’t really surprising that he has won quite a few major awards throughout his career. In 2007, he won the Karnataka State Film Award for the Best Male Playback Singer, Filmfare Award, and the Karnataka Chitra Rasikara Sangha Award for musical prospects like Janapada, Kallaralli Hoovaagi, and Mungaru Male.
