David was born on 17th August 1967 in Swissvale, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His father Jim is an engineer while his mother Margaret is a librarian. He grew up as the youngest of the three sons in Edgewood, another suburb of Pittsburgh. The famous electrical engineer Frank Conrad is his ancestor.

He went to Swissvale High School but soon transferred to an all-boys prep school called The Kiski School in Saltsburg on a scholarship. He graduated in 1985 and went to Brown University to study history. While at BU, he started acting. He got his big break when he appeared in Ghost Whisperer as the husband of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character for five seasons until its cancellation in 2010. He also acted in the hit comedy Wedding Crashers in 2005. His other film appearances include the drama Men of Honor (2000), Anything Else, Follow The Prophet, etc. He has also guest appeared on shows like The Good Wife, CSI: Miami, The Firm, Law, and Order: Special Victims Unit, Castle, etc. Between 2013 and 2014, David had a recurring role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Ian Quinn. He lives with his wife Nina Garcia with whom he has a son named Lucas.
