Her birthday falls on July 11. Lil has an elder brother named Christopher. She attended Queen of All Saints Elementary School. When Lil turned nine, her parents divorced each other, and her father got her custody. She shared a turbulent relationship with him, and he would often beat her up.

At last, Linwood kicked her out of his home, and circumstances forced Lil to live on streets and stop going to school. While in her teens, she had a chance meeting with The Notorious B.I.G., who influenced her personal as well as artistic choices, especially after he became famous.

She later went to Sarah J. Hale Vocational High School and Brooklyn College Academy. Foxy Brown and Nas were her classmates. The Notorious B.I.G. introduced her group Junior M.A.F.I.A., and since then Lil became a public figure.

In 1999, she separated from the Junior M.A.F.I.A. and embarked on a solo career and released an album named Hard Core, which brought more work to her. She collaborated on various remixes and released more songs, modeled for some brands and even established Queen Bee Entertainment.

Lil paired up with Derek Hough, a professional dancer, and participated in the Dancing with the Stars' eighth season. Lil has been the brand ambassador of Brandy, MAC, Iceberg, Apple, Old Navy, Royalty, and much more. She has lent her voice to a character from Def Jam: Fight for NY, a video game. Lil launched her clothing line named 24/7 Goddess Collection.

Besides being an efficient artist and businesswoman, Lil also donated heavily to HIV and AIDS patients and spread awareness about it. She has also given money to the Breast Examination Center of Harlem and UCLA Breast Center. Lil advocates women's, child's as well as the LGBTQ community's rights.

Before achieving fame, she dated Shawn Powell for a long time and even got engaged to him. However, Lil broke up with him to focus on her career. Next, she entered into a relationship with Christopher Wallace and was with him until his untimely death.

After Wallace, Damion "World" Hardy was her boyfriend, but they split after a year of being together because of his abusive nature. Lil then briefly dated Ray J and Scott Storch. She is the mother and guardian of a magnificent daughter named Royal Reign.
