Katy Perry was born to pastor parents Maurice Hudson and Mary Perry. Raised in a religious family, the only music she was allowed to listen to were Sister Act 1 & 2 tracks and not other rock or any popular music. Perry started taking her music lessons at the age of 9 and she also learned to play the guitar at 13. Soon she was interested in pursuing a career in music and started rebelling against her upbringing by her parents. Her first experience was singing in a church.
“All that begins well ends well." With her mother’s help, she recorded her first album Katy Hudson, which was not a great success. Perry signed up for various labels, but none of them lasted long and never brought success on her side. She started providing backing vocals for songs. It was not over. It was just the beginning when she was introduced to Virgin Records Chairman Jason Flom that resulted in her recording her second song One of the Boys and in 2008 she released her single “I Kissed a Girl” which became a hit despite being dragged into several controversies.
Now Perry had established herself as a popstar and made that into pop Superstar by releasing her next album “Teenage Dreams” and “Ur says Go” of which even '
Madonna' became a fan of the song and helped in publicizing it. She began dating
Russell Brand, comedy actor and they got married in 2010 in India as per the traditional Hindu ceremony. Their union, however, did not last long as Brand filed for divorce in 2011.
As happiness was setting down in her personal life, success was blooming in the professional front. In 2012, she released a new version of Teenage Dream: the Complete Confection. In 2013, she was back with a bang dominating the music charts with her peppy album Prism. It was a hat-trick of success when she made another collection in This Is How We Do. Finally, she started her record label Metamorphosis Music. Apart from singing, she also played the role of Smurfette in
The Smurfs sequels. In October 2015, she announced a mobile app Katy Perry Pop that guides users in their musical dreams.
