Christine Anu, born on March 15th,1970, is a pop singer and actress who hails from Australia. She was born in Queensland, Australia. She began her career as a dancer, and then started performing vocals. Anu is a trained dancer from the National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA). She first sang for the Rainmakers and Warumpi Band. Her first song recording was for Last Train, in 1993, which was a remake of Kelly song. Monkey and Turtle were based on a traditional story. Her first song, My Island Home, won her several ARIA Music Awards, a Deadly Sounds National Aboriginal & Islander Award, and gained immense popularity among the youth.
She sang a song for Buzz Lahrmann’s album, Something for Everybody. After this song, she was cast in Moulin Rouge!. She teamed up with Archie Roach, Paul Kelly, Renee Geyer, and Tiddas and together released a cover of Yil Lull. In 2000, she released another album, Come My Way and the same year, she also sang at the Sydney Olympics Closing Ceremony. In 2014, she released Island Christmas. According to Anu, Island Christmas reminds her of her dad who had to leave the family and go for a search of work for a livelihood. Anu has toured and performed in many countries like Vietnam, China, and North America. She received the Judith Johnson Award in a play at the Sydney National Awards.
Anu also has an acting and Tv career. She appeared in many Tv shows like Dating The Enemy, and Little Shop of Horrors. Rent, released in 1998, paved the way for her stage career. In 2003, she appeared in Matrix Unloaded. She judged Popstars’ Live, a television show. In 2012, she appeared in Outland, which was an Australian television series. The same year, Anu also participated in Who Do You Think You Are.
In 2016, Anu began appearing in the evenings as a guest in radio stations. She appeared in 702 ABC Sydney, 666 ABC Canberra, 1233 ABC Newcastle, and ABC Local Radio Stations across whole South Wales. She has some guests to whom she talks to about a wide range of topics.
Anu married Simon Deutrom, whom she was dating since her childhood, and is a mother of two children, a son, Kuiam, and a daughter, Zipporah. However, she recently announced her split with Simon after six years of marriage due to severe personal issues. Her live albums are Intimate and Deadly, launched in 2010, and Restyling Up 20 Years in 2015.
