Calum Thomas Hood (born 25 January 1996) is an Australian vocalist, lyricist, and artist, known for being the bassist of the Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. Since 2014, 5 Seconds of Summer have sold over 10 million copies, sold more than 2 million show passes worldwide, and the band's melodies streams outperform 7 billion, making them one of the best Australian melodic fares ever.
Hood went to Norwest Primary School, where he became a close acquaintance with future band-mate Michael Clifford in the 3rd grade. Hood went to Norwest Christian College for his secondary school instruction. He got to know future band-mate Luke Hemmings after performing a Secondhand Serenade cover at a school ability show.
Hood was interested in soccer. However, after his band moved to London in late 2012, he chose to quit playing football. In 2011, Hood, Clifford, and Hemmings started posting tune covers on Hemmings' YouTube channel. The triplet ultimately added Ashton Irwin to their recordings, framing the current 5 Seconds of Summer lineup. After long stretches of posting melody covers together, the band started drawing interest from notable music names and distributers and created a deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Hood has since delivered four studio collections with the band; each met with overall success: 5 Seconds of Summer (2014), Sounds Good Feels Good (2015), Youngblood (2018), and Calm (2020).
