Golden Brooks

Golden Brooks, born as Golden Ameda Brooks, on December 1st, 1970, is an actress best known for her portrayal of the character Maya Wilkes on the show ‘Girlfriends’ which ran from 2000 to 2008. Born in Fresno (San Francisco), California, Brooks was a tough competitor in the Skating figure, and it won her many laurels.

She is a classically trained dancer who also holds a degree in Sociology where she concentrated on ‘Media Representation of Minorities’ as her major, and Theatre as her minor, from the UC Berkeley. Apart from what she has learned, she also teaches various styles of dance, some of which are ballet, jazz, and modern dance. She is also known for her role in ‘Hart of Dixie’ from 2012 – 2013), where she joined the cast as Ruby Jeffries (Mayor Lavon’s ex – girlfriend, who runs against him for Mayor, in Season 2). 

Her early works include her starring in shows such as ‘The Jaime Foxx Show’ (as a girl named Nancy), ‘ Promised Land Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, ‘The Adventures of Pete & Pete’, etc. She also appeared in many films; those which stood out are ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, ‘Impostor’, etc. For her tremendous contribution to the industry as a colored artist, she was appreciated for her 2004 film, ‘Motives’ and was nominated for the Black Reel Award.

Brooks has a daughter with her former ex – boyfriend D. B. Woodside. Her name is Dakota Tao Brooks-Woodside, born on September 1st, 2009. Apart from being a writer and an actress, Brooks is also an active Volunteer at the Pediatric AIDS Foundation and AIDS Project, situated in Los Angeles.
