Brought up in a small Jewish family in South Bronx and Queens, she got her early education at the Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts and went to Hunter College where she majored in both History and Drama. Finding herself in a dilemma as to whether become a history teacher or become an actress, she eventually chose the latter and went to the New York City's Actors Studio for her acting education.
