Deborah was born on 12 May 1966 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her mother is a nuclear disposal specialist and her father a gynecologist. She successfully graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Canada. She was also the first Canadian to be accepted to the Institute. Opportunities knocked at her door frequently in Australian films and television series which includes Bangkok Hilton, Hotel Room and so on. Her breakthrough came with her role in David Cronenberg’s erotic drama Crash in 1996. She also acted in several independent films.

The film was received with mixed movie critics.The film portrayed graphic sexuality with violence. The movie received Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in the same year. Deborah plays Catherine wife of James Ballard, a film producer. The couple engages in various infidelities outside their marriage, and their arousal is heightened by discussing the particulars of their extramarital affairs. She continued her performance in Crash in the psychological thriller The Game, directed by David Fincher.

It narrates the story of the wealthy investment banker who is given a mysterious gift. A game that integrates into strange ways with his everyday life vouchered by a company called Consumer Recreation Services (CRS). Debora portrays the role of Christine in the film. She is a waitress at CRS, who appears to have been endangered by the game. She appeared in the award-winning ensemble drama Sunshine. Debora was nominated on Genie Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a leading role for the independent movie Between Strangers.

The story revolves around three women facing emotional crises regarding the men in their lives. She plays Catherine who has never been able to resolve her hatred towards her father, Alan. He had beaten her mother to death when she was a little girl. Once he is released from prison, she is determined to leave her husband children, and her career as a musician to track down her father and kill him. He is a changed man now, but she is unwilling to forgive him. Olivia played by Sophia Loren and Natlia played by Mira Sorvino are the other important characters.
