Anna Helene Paquin was born in Manitoba and raised in Wellington, New Zealand on July 24, 1982, to an English teacher, Mary Paquin, and Brain Paquin, a Physical Education teacher of a high school from Canada. She has two older siblings, Andrew who is a director and Katya. Anna loved to play the viola, cello, and piano when she was young. She also participated in ballet, swimming, gymnastics and downhill skiing. Anna went to Hutt International School and the Wellington Girl’s College in New Zealand before migrating to Los Angeles during her teenage, and she studied at Windward School.
She completed a year at Columbia University and left that to start a career in acting. In spite of having less to no experience in acting, she beat 5000 candidates and got the role of Flora McGrath in the romantic drama The Piano directed by Jane Campion. At such a young age of 11, she triumphed the Best Supporting Actress Oscar Award and became the second-youngest Academy Award winner in the history of the Oscars. She won various nominations for the young artist awards for her role in Flying Away Home in 1996, The Member of the Wedding in 1997 and A Walk On The Moon in 1999 which led a way for her to become a successful child artist.
She got the Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination for an amazing performance for her appearance in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous which was a comedy-drama. She achieved the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Saturn Award for playing a mutant heroine Rogue in ‘X-Men’. She starred in, and executive produced the film Blue State between 2006 and 2007, the film is made by Paquin Films which is a production company formed by her and her brother, Andrew.
She played a lead role in ‘True Blood’ (2008-14) which was the HBO vampire drama television series of Sookie Stackhouse. For her performance in the same, she conquered the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance in 2009. Her hard work paid off when she got nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Golden Globe and the Emmy for her role in the movie ‘Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee in the year 2007. She also got nominated for the Golden Globe Award for The Courageous Heart Of Irena Sendler (2009). She got a chance to try a different genre and worked in a horror film ‘Trick’r Treat’ as Laurie, which released in 2009.
She got married on 21 August 2010 to actor Stephen Moyer and had two children Charlie and Poppy with him. Stephen was her co-actor in the show True Blood. She supports many charity foundations like The Art of Elysium, Make A Wish Foundation, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Elton John AIDS Foundation.
