He was born on 12 August, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Sacramento, California. He completed his education from Mira Loma High School. He had done various plays during his school life. In 1982, he married Lynn Eriks and got divorced in 1987. He had two children from his first marriage and then on 26 May 1992, he married Ramona Jones. In his second marriage, he became the father of three children. He started his career by working as a model for a magazine cover. He appeared as a full frontal nude model for Playgirl Magazine under the alias Andre Cooper III as the centerfold photo-spread during June issue. In 1979, he was offered a role in a movie which was his debut. It was a romantic comedy film named 10, directed by Blake Edwards, and produced by Blake Edwards and Tony Adams.
