Laz Alonso

Lazaro Alonso was born on March 25th, 1974 in Washington, D.C., US. Born to a first-generation Cuban immigrant couple, he is of the Afro-Cuban descent. He graduated from the Howard University with a degree in Marketing. Laz Alonso began his career in Wall Street as an investment banker. He had studied classical piano for nearly a decade. His vocation in the entertainment industry was by hosting shows on the BET network.

The epic movie 'Avatar' is set in the mid 22nd century, human beings are busy colonising Pandora, a thickly forested habitable moon in the Alpha Centauri star system, so as to mine the mineral unobtanium which is a superconductor. As the mining for the superconductor progress, it threatens the survival of the indigenous species of Pandora the Na’vi tribe.

They are 10 foot tall blue coloured people who live in complete harmony with nature. They worship the goddess called Eywa. The human scientist creates Avatars, genetically modified Na’vi tribe. As the film proceeds one of Jake’s avatar is accepted into their society. He was asked by the Resources Development Administration (RDA) to spy about the abundance of unobtanium and collect biological data regarding the place.

He is married to Moat the chief’s daughter. He becomes part of the tribe in due course of time. His change in allegiance angers the RDA head Quaritch, who decides to destroy Pandora. Tsu’tey, played by Laz Alonso, acts as Jake’s translator, the new chief. Tsu’tey is one of the best warriors of the Omaticaya. He is to succeed to the position of the chieftainship of the tribe. He is betrothed to Neytiri.

The subsequent battle leads to destruction on both sides including injuries to Tsu’tey. In the end with an exception to some humans, all others are expelled from Pandora and Jake is permanently made an avatar. Laz Alonso was a versatile actor and has made television guest starring appearances in The Unit and Eyes.
