Gerard McCarthy was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on 31st March, 1981. In 2005, he debuted as an actor in the industry. He graduated from Laine Theatres Art, in 2002, and was awarded a scholarship for the same. He has acted in various movies and TV series since his debut in 2005. Gerard also starred in the first episode of the famous TV series, “Vikings”, where he played the role of Brondsted, created by Michael Hirst. Vikings is an admired historical drama and inspired by the works of Vikings Ragnar Lothbrok. It pictures a farmer, Ragnar, who arouses to become the King of Norway by unbeaten raids in England. In 2013, the first episode of the series was released.
McCarthy was also part of “Belonging to Laura”, an adaptation of Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde, where he played the role of Rory Thompson. The movie received nomination in the Best Single Drama category. From 2006-2010, McCarthy portrayed the character of Kris Fisher in ‘Hollyoaks’, for which he accepted the awards for the Best Newcomer, and also went on to win various National Television Awards. He was seen in the comedy drama, “Puppy Love”, in 2014, which had Jo Scanlan and Pepperdine as his co-stars. Gerard’s famous works include his 2014 feature film, “A Nightingale Falling”, which was an Irish movie where he played as Captain Shearing, set during the time of the Irish War of Independence. It portrays the story of two sisters taking care of a mutilated soldier. Garret Daly and Martina McGlynn directed the movie.
Gerard is not only involved in flicks and TV series, but has also been raising funds for victims. He participated in Panic Attack and donated the money earned to the NI Children Hospice. In 2010, he ran in a marathon, along with Olympic gold medalist Mary Peters, and contributed the raised money to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
