Presently, he lives in Pennsylvania. After completing his graduation, he started to work at a gym. He moved into the field of boxing after his friends convinced him. In New Jersey, he worked in several gyms. He participated in the Golden Gloves competition in New Jersey. He had very good records. He had 21 wins and lost only one game.

Coming to his career, he had his debut in 1992, with the movie, 'Gladiator’. It was based on boxing. He played the role of a Cuban boxer named Romano. He presented himself in several TV series and pictures. In 1995, he was nominated at the Spirit Awards for the Best Male Lead. He acted with Lauren Velez and Rita Moreno. In 1996, he received nominations for the Best Actor Award for the movie, The Sunchaser, at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 1997, he portrayed himself as Chris Perez, along with Jennifer Lopez, in the photoplay, ‘Selena’. He did more than 20 films, one of which is Bad Boys II, where he enacted the character of Roberto. His other credits are ‘Oz’, as Dino Ortolani, Third Watch, as Matty Caffey, and ‘Homicide’, as Paul Falsone. He starred as John Basilone in the show, The Pacific. It aired on HBO World.
