John Henry Cox is an American television, film, and voice actor. He was born on December 18, 1951, in Oklahoma in the United States. He is the son of Lois (a teacher) and Henry (a minister) Cox. John is married to award-winning socio-political satirist and voiceover actress, Cynthia Adler. He studied in Casa Grande, Arizona during high school, where he played football, joined several school plays, and became a Student Body President. He took his pre-med Major in Biology at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
However, after watching Eugene O’Neill’s Mourning Becomes Electra at the university theater, he shifted his course and majored Theater/Performance Option, followed by a Classical training. When he was still at the University of Arizona, Leonard Katzman hired him to portray as a Comanchero in the Western drama series, Gunsmoke, during the 70’s. This eventually led him to audition in Lee Phillips’ The Red Badge of Courage (1974). This was followed by several guest appearances in Katzman’s legal drama series, Petrocelli. He earned the Village Voice Obie Award after performing in Stephen Bill’s stage play, Curtains. John also performed Shakespeare at the Broadway and Central Park. In 1988, he was seen in the mystery thriller film, Masquerade and has voiced Han Fastolfe in the interactive film, Robots. John also made a small stint on BBC’s comedy series, Help, in 1990. In the year 1995, he played as a Chief Surgeon in the first episode of the documentary series, American Masters. He also bagged small roles in the films West New York (1996), The Siege (1998), etc. He donned voiced performances in the video games, The Longest Journey (1999) and Manhunt (2003). He earned fame after bagging the role of Judge Everett Todd in the popular legal drama series, Law & Order, in 2005.
In 2007, John played as Sheriff Radcliffe in some episodes of the TV soap, As the World Returns. In the same year, he starred in the short drama film, In the Foxhole. He bagged significant roles in films like The Nanny Diaries (2007), Capers (2008), Scordid Things (2009), My Own Love Song (2010), Butterflies of Bill Baker (2013), and Bridge of Spies (2015). He returned as Judge Gregory Trenton/ Judge Trenton in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit; a franchise of the original Law & Order series.
