He was born on 16th September 1987 in Encino, Los Angeles, California. Daren is of a Jewish-Russian descent. His mother Elise Kagasoff (nee Levy) is a designer and his father, Barry, is a wholesale diamond dealer. He has an elder brother named Justin and a younger sister named Natalie.

He went to Montclair Preparatory High School from where he passed out in 2005. He was a part of the School Baseball team. He was supposed to be in Business like his father, which is why he went to study Business and Management at San Francisco State University. But he could not find his niche in anything there, thus instead pursued his acting career and came to Los Angeles. His first role was of an alcoholic, Tim in the Whitmore-Lindley Theatre Centre production of a play called ‘Suburbia.’

Daren was handpicked by producer Brenda Hampton for the role of Ricky Underwood in the hit show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” in 2009. This role even bagged him a Teen Choice Award in 2009 as “Choice Summer TV Star-Male”. After this role, he was further nominated for three consecutive years in the same category, but he didn’t get them.
