California, USA who has worked for several big budget Hollywood films, most notably the
Star Trek series. He hails from the legendary make up dynasty of Westmores, who have been in charge of make-up departments in most major Hollywood studios since 1917. Born on March 22, 1938, Michael Westmore is the son of famous Hollywood make-up artist Monte Westmore. He has two brothers, Marvin Westmore and Monty Westmore, both of whom also grew up to be famous make-up artists. Michael is married to model Marion Bergeson Westmore and is a father to three children: McKenzie Westmore ( a renowned actress), Michele Westmore Meeks, and Michael Westmore II.
In his time there, Michael was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and finished his graduation from the University of California-
Santa Barbara in the year 1961. He joined Universal studios as a make-up artist soon after his graduation and was promoted to assistant department head of the make-up department in three years. In a career that went on for more than 40 years, Michael did a number of films like 'Raging Bull', the first three 'Rocky' films, '2010', 'Clan of the Cave bear', his best known works being- 'Star Trek: The next generation', 'Deep Space Nine', 'Voyager', 'Enterprise'. He has also worked with the CIA to create disguises for agents to blend in easily overseas.
Michael comes from a long line of Westmores who have changed the face of the make-up department in Hollywood. Michael's grandfather, George Westmore has been credited with creating the first studio make-up department. On October 3, 2008, the Westmore family was recognised for its stupendous contributions to the Hollywood film industry by being awarded a star on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. Michael has been a nominee at the Emmy awards for a record 42 times, and has won nine times. He has received four nominations for Academy Award for Makeup, and has won once, for the 1985 Cher film, Mask.
Over the course of his long and illustrious career, Michael has worked with a number of famous faces like
Elizabeth Taylor, Robert DeNiro, Bette Davis and
Sylvester Stallone. Michael has also written a number of books and articles on cosmetics and their applications, with some of his published works being: The Art of Theatrical Makeup for Stage and Screen, The Official Star Trek: The Next Generation FX Journal and Star Trek Aliens and Artifact. He is currently working on heading the department and creatively designing a makeup project, which would be the largest ever to be filmed in India.
