David Kazala is a Canada-based documentary film editor known for works like The World Before Her, The Real Mash, and The Richie Boys. The Toronto-based editor has been active in the industry for about twenty-eight years. The award-winning editor is from Toronto, Canada. Kazala graduated from Ryerson University, Canada, in 1992. He pursued his bachelor’s in fine arts, film studies from the university. His areas of expertise are documentaries, feature films, editing, television, film, video production, film production, post-production, film editing, final cut pro, avid, final cut pro, avid media composer, adobe premiere pro, and storytelling.
Kazala has a slew of awards to his credit. His outstanding performance as a documentary film editor led to his films being nominated for Best Editing in Documentary for Derby Crazy Love (2013). His movie Dolphin Man was nominated for Best Editing in a Feature Length Documentary at the Canadian Screen Awards. The Real Inglorious Bastards, a television documentary film, got him nominated in Best Picture Editing in a Documentary Program or Series at the Canadian Screen Awards. His projects like The Real M*A*S*H, a television movie, and the documentary Dish: Women, Waitressing & the Art of Service were nominated at the Gemini Awards in Best Picture Editing.
Besides the nominations, his documentaries have bagged prestigious awards like Canadian Screen Award for Storyline Entertainment, Gemini Award, Emmy Award, Edward R. Murrow Award, Gracie Award, Golden Sheaf Award, and Audience Award at the Hong Kong Film Festival. His award-winning documentary, The World Before Her, depicts the plight of Indian women. It focuses on two different categories, one being an aspiring Miss India Miss India was a TV serial that was aired on Doord >> Read More... and the other a conservative who, despite being different, have to face the stigma attached to women. The World Before Her bagged titles like Tribeca and Hot Docs best documentary, top ten TIFF film, and an Emmy Award nomination. His television film documentary Diamond Road examines the world of the gem through different angles. The documentary gives us an insight into the diamond industry across the globe and the role played by various nations in its development.
Diamond Road won the 2008 Gemini Awards for Best Documentary Series. The Ritchie Boys focuses on an intelligence unit created by the United States during the Second World War. The documentary won the Audience Award at the Honk Kong Film Festival.
