Having always dreamt of a world where dance music gets as much radio play as the other genres of music, Guetta has now become a producer who dominates the pop records chart himself. It’s certainly been a wild and inspiring run.
David Guetta was born as Pierre David Guetta in Paris, France, in 1967. Exhibiting a natural interest in mixing and producing from a very young age, he started working in local clubs as a DJ, playing covers and remixes. He began hosting DJ nights in his early twenties, and in 1990, at the age of 23, released his first single, ‘Nation Rap’, collaborating with rapper, Sidney Duteil.
He released his first studio album, ‘Just A Little More Love’, in 2002, at 25, through a record label that he co-founded himself. The title track was featured in the film, ‘Football Factory’. Its genre took influences from house and electro-house, and received more or less positive reviews, debuting at #11, and peaking at #6 on the French music charts.
His next album, ‘Guetta Blaster’, released two years later, featuring guest vocalist, Chris Willis, and Jamaican singer, Miss Thing.
Chris Willis, an American producer, would soon become a frequent collaborator with David Guetta.
‘Pop Life’, his third studio album, released in 2007, and achieved popularity in Europe, selling 530,000 copies worldwide. ‘Love Is Gone’, the first single from the album, went on to become a top-ten hit on the UK Singles Chart, and featured longtime partner Chris Willis, as the main vocalist, and guest stars Swedish DJ Steve Angello, who produced it, and pop stars Tara McDonald and Cozi. Adopting conscientious methods, and having to play multiple instruments to achieve his sound, David Guetta has had to work his way up right from the bottom. Believing that music is always about action-reaction, he feels that dance music is anything but stagnant at the moment, with one type of music always leading into the next, and with the people always looking for something fresh. He recently admitted to starting on a new track with Irish musician Hozier.
Dubbed by renowned television host Larry King as the ‘Face Of America’, in an interview, he certainly knows what he’s doing.
