Otmar Gutmann was a German Filmmaker and was famously known for his animated series Pingu. He was born on 24 April 1937 in Germany. Otmar, the Founder of The Pygos Group, started his career as an amateur and some of the works he produced are Pingu, the most successful work and most award-winning show, and Aventures(1978). A cardiac arrest took his life in Switzerland in 1993 while working on the second season of Pingu.
Following his death, the Pingu team decided to air more seasons. His company was sold to HiT Entertainment in 2001. Pingu was a clay-modeled kids' show created by Silvio Mazzola in 1990 and ran for four seasons on Swiss DRS TV. The show lasted for 156 minutes. In his studio, he created individual clay models for each character and each movement; that's how he made Pingu. As a result, his team built miniature sets and food for the show, showing a real-life feel. The show became very popular and was broadcast on more than 100 TV stations. The story revolves around penguins and their families. The producers purchased Pingu's merchandise, games, and many other rights. Pingu won 18 awards in its lifetime, including the awards at Berlin Film Festival (1987), the Japanese Maeda award (1991), and the French Prix Jeunesse (1991).
