Chris Buck is an American movie director, voice actor, screenwriter, and animator. He was born in the year 1960 in Wichita, Kansas in the United States. He has been inspired in animations when he saw the first movie in a theater titled as Pinocchio. He and his family shifted to Placenta in California. He completed his graduation from El Dorado High School.
He used to take classes on how to animate characters at Cal Arts for two years. Later, from 1988 to 1993, he taught there. Chris had a friendship with Michael Giaimo and
at Cal Arts. In 1978, he began his career at Disney as an animator. He had directed Frozen and Tarzan. He made Pocahontas, an animated production at Disney. He expressed three characters. Those were Grandmother Willow, Percy, and Wiggins. He animated some of the roles in The Little Mermaid. Then, he also did Rescuers Down Under and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He has been an animator on the film The Fox and the Hound.
Besides all these, he served as a director cum animator in various cinemas at Hyperion Pictures. One of them is Bebe’s Kids. He co-worked with
in . He was an animator with Brad Bird. He is also credited for animated advertisements for the Los Angeles produced products like Duck Soup, Kurtz & Friends, and Film Fair. In 2007, he co-directed Surf Up. It released on 2007.
In 2008, Chris’s friend Lasseter told him to come back to Disney from Sony. In 2008, Chris presented his ideas to Lasseter. One was the fairytale and music version of The Snow Queen. Lasseter’s liked Chris’ idea. He told to work on this to develop it. It released under the name, Frozen on 27th November in 2013. Later, Chris tried to make an agreement with Giaimo to return to Disney as the movie art’s director. He accepted it. Giaimo won the Annie Award with the recognition of the Best Production Design in an Animated Production. In 2014, Chris and Lee had made a short screenplay of the frozen characters. They titled as
. It released in 2015. In 2015, the production company, Disney, declared that Lee and Buck would be directing a sequel to Frozen.
Coming to his personal life, Chris got married to Shelley. They gave birth to Woody, Ryder, and Reed. Ryder died in 2013 in a car accident. He was a singer, composer, and performer in the band, the Breakers, and Ryder Buck. Buck won the award for Best Animated Feature for Frozen at the 86th Academy Awards.
