Shobu Kapoor

Shobu Kapoor is an Indian actress, writer, screenplayer, lyricist, and acting agent. Shobu has been active in the entertainment business for approximately three decades. In 1988, she relocated to London and began her career as a TV performer. Shobu got training at Drama Studio London, after which she performed in many theatre productions. In 2013, Shobu co-founded a film production company and produced two short films. Scarlet and Alfo Punk were the two short films. She left the company in 2016 to pursue her goals.

Shobu’s first television appearance was in Family Pride on Channel 4. She initially received a guest appearance on that show, but due to its popularity, it quickly evolved into a series regular presence. Shobu’s subsequent television role was in Eastenders when she portrayed the wildly popular series regular Gita Kapoor. Gita’s character made Shobu a household name in the UK and overseas. Her next major television project after Eastenders was Citizen Khan, where she portrayed Mrs Khan in the title character.

Her recent project is the character of Seema in the eagerly awaited Channel 4 show We Are Lady Parts, which Shobu had worked on for many years while working on other high-profile TV and film projects. She made her Netflix debut in 2022 in the second season of Bridgerton as Lady Sheffield. Shobu has also shown up in Gangster Granny Strikes Again. Other roles of Shobu Kapoor include Taj’s mother in Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj (2006), Mrs Khan in Mischief Night (2006), Meredith Kercher's mother in the TV film Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy (2011).
