. She was born in a wealthy family. Her parents are Grace Valle and Moore Peters Huffman. A year after the birth, her mother and father divorced, and she was raised mostly by her mother. She has six sisters and one brother. Huffman studied in a private boarding school, The Putney School in Putney, Vermont. She completed her graduation from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan in 1981. She had also attended New York University, Circle in the Square and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England. Huffman started her career from the theater; her first debut came on 1982, A Taste of Honey as Joe.
She also debuted on Broadway.
