Loved and appreciated worldwide for his role as the 10th doctor on the legendary sci-fi series Doctor Who, David Tennant has become one of Scotland’s greatest actors. Born on 18th April 1971, David fixated on his one true passion of becoming an actor. It was since the age of 3 that he dreamt of starring on Doctor Who. Such was the influence of Tom Baker. Tennant managed to achieve his dream when he was officially named the 10th doctor in 2005.

The actor was initially born David McDonald. When he learned that the name had already been taken in the actors union, he took his stage name from the Pet Shop Boys. One of his first television appearances was when he was just 16 years old. He bagged a role in an anti-smoking PSA for the Glasgow Health Board. It was aired on television and shown across many schools. He was also a part of the youth theater group run by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He was the youngest student to audition and win a place at the Academy.

The year 1994 brought him his first big break when he was cast in a lead role in the Scottish drama Takin’ Over the Asylum. David is not very vocal about his personal life and likes to hold onto his privacy.

In his 30+ years of career, David has managed to secure himself a beloved household name. In 2007 he was named ‘Coolest Man on TV.’ He had also won the National Television Awards from the year 2006-2008 and then again in 2010. In 2008 he was voted the 16th Sexiest Man in the world by Cosmopolitan survey. He is also famous for his lead roles in TV dramas Blackpool and Casanova. David has spent several years as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company as well. His career continues to thrive with lead roles in films, TV and theaters.
