Bengali Actor Nimu Bhowmik

Nimu Bhowmik is an Indian Actor and Politician who predominantly worked in the Bengali film industry. He was born on 14 November 1935 in the small town of Dinajpur in Bengal Presidency while the region was still under British rule. Nimu Bhowmik’s father’s name was Avinash Chandra Bhowmik, and his mother was Giribala Bhowmik. He was married to Supta Bowik, and the couple had one daughter. Nimu Bhowmik was interested in acting from a young age and decided to move to Kolkata to pursue his dreams before he even finished college.

Because of this, Nimu Bhowmik made his debut on the big screen in 1966 with the film ‘Monihar.’ His captivating performance in this film immediately caught the attention of audiences and critics alike, which helped him get roles with ease. He is best known for his portrayals of a typical Bengali man, villains, and comedic characters.

Besides the cinematic industry, Nimu Bhowmik was also involved in radio dramas, jatra, and professional theater. He was even a founding member of the theater group 'Shauvnik.’ The actor also tried to direct his own movie called 'Protyaborton.’ As he grew older, Nimu Bhowmik attempted to get into politics and contested as a BJP candidate for Raiganj in the North Dinajpur district in 2014. He lost the election to the left-wing party candidate and decided to turn back to acting. After spending more than five decades in the film industry, Nimu Bhowmik passed away due to cardiac arrest on 27 August 2019 at the age of 83.
