An associate Editor supports the main editor in charge of the film as the film has too many shots and scenes to be taken care of. The associate Editor tries out variations of the shots for the Editor and later on the editor in chief picks up the best from it which he or she thinks is fits the film properly.
They support the main editor and understand his vision and ideas for the film to translate it into his job. He or she aims to become a chief editor one day and thus work closely with the main editor to understand the craft of editing and how the process works. The pace of the films, the thrill, the sounds and all of the impact that editing can give to a film is closely understood by the associate editor from the main editor in this process of filmmaking. "
