Hashini was born on 20 January 1992 with the birth name Hashini Shashika Gonagala. The 24-year old dancer turned model was born in the state of Galle in Sri Lanka. Galle is famous for being the largest port-city in the small nation of Sri Lanka. She was born into a family with three brothers to parents Ajith Gonagala and Princi Gonagala. She has two younger brothers and one elder brother. Their names are Sanka Gonagala, Asaen Gonagala, and Tharindu Gonagala respectively.

Hashini completed her schooling from Stafford International School in Colombo. Her talent and passion for dancing led her into the Entertainment Industry at a very young age. Her rise to fame happened through the Sri Lankan Dancing Reality Show “Sirasa Dancing Stars”.The show airs on the channel Sirasa TV and first broadcasted in February 2008. Hashini appeared as a contestant on the dancing show and eventually went on to win the show.
