'Thangalaan’ To Stream On This OTT Platform

After an average outing at the box office, Pa Ranjith’s ‘Thangalaan’ has secured an OTT release.

Although the official announcement is yet to be made about the release date, the OTT rights for ‘Thangalaan’ have been bagged by Netflix. The film is expected to be released on Netflix around the end of September, should everything go right.

Starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role, ‘Thangalaan’ is an action drama set in pre independence era, when the British colonalists aim to exploit the KGF region, dominated by the tribals, and how one of them resists their atrocities. The movie stars a huge ensemble cast led by Chiyaan Vikram, comprising actors like Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Malavika Mohanan etc.

The movie was released around the Independence Day weekend, the same time as movies like ‘Demonte Colony 2’, ‘Raghu Thatha’. However, despite favorable reviews from the critics, ‘Thangalaan’ didn’t succeed at the box office. With a worldwide gross of 100 crores and counting, it somehow managed to recover the production costs.

However, the domestic revenue is far from impressive, even though its Hindi dub has managed to gain some popularity. Interestingly, ‘Demonte Colony 2’, which is a sequel of the horror thriller released in 2015, performed better than ‘Thangalaan’, with an impressive collection of 55 crores.
