Plot
The plot of the story revolves around a bar. It is named as Parvathi Bar. Earlier, it used to be a very famous bar however, due to some conflict between different gang's members the bar had to be shut down for almost twenty years. The story takes place in Royapuram. After twenty years, the two gangs are still eager to set their hands on the bar. As the bar reopens, they again got in several fights to claim the control over the bar.
However, this time, the fight is not only between the two gangs. There is also a third perspective of the story. Punitha is a socially conscious school teacher. She thinks that there is a good reason in shutting down of the bar. She is also against the use of alcohol. So, she tries her best to keep the bar closed, adding a third dimension to the story. It results in a triangular war.
Star performance
Saala is the main character in the film. Dheeran plays his character. As a gangster, Dheeran played Saala’s character well. He performed exceptionally as his acting was full of courage and power. His character, Saala, is intense and unique. Other important character is Guna. He is the father figure for Dheeran. Aruldoss played his character well. Although his acting was good, his character was not morally good as it was a gangster’s character. Overall, Aruldoss have delivered fantastic performance.
Another main character is Thangadurai. Charles Vinoth played his character. In the movie, he was in the opposition party, other than Saala. Charles delivered an incredible performance throughout the film. The character of Punitha also has a significant role in the movie. Reshma Venkatesh played her role. Being socially conscious, Reshma gave terrific performance. Her presence made the storyline more dramatic.
Other actors including Srinath Alnath, I.T. Arasan, Athulath, Al Azina, Aruvi Balaji, Shree Natraj Dheeran, S.D Sathish Kumar, Sampath Ram, Yogi Ram, Puzhal Santha, Warrior Sathish, and Thidiyan have delivered an incredible performance.
Analysis
Saala is a fantastic movie. The movie’s themes include the consumption of alchohol, violence, power struggle and prestige. The filmmakers created a vast variety of characters. Punitha, is one of the most compelling character of the movie. She is an activist. The task of writing the character of a socialist and activist is not an easy task. Therefore, the filmmakers did a lots of research before making the movie as every sentence spoken by Punitha is a fact. However, despite being a protagonist, Saala is not at the center of the movie. In the movie, his character is overlooked by Punitha’s character. There is no doubt that the movie is full of adventure and compelling. The principal leads acted well. Other than this, all the actors gave exceptional performances. On the other hand, the film lost its momentum in the second half. Instead of thriller there is lot of long speeches which made the film tedious.
The execution of the script is fantastic. It has beautiful cinematography. The locations shot in the movie are basically local areas that added more sense to the film. The storyline was great, yet it was unrealistic. The film’s pace might be a little longer. The songs and music in the movie is fantastic as well.

Verdict
Despite all the shortcomings, if you watch the film, you will like it. The location, music, and actors did excellent work. Therefore, one should watch this for thriller and action.
