The movie Maruthu is directed by Muthaiah, who is known for directing movies such as Kutti Puli and Komban. One another time, Muthaiah has teamed up with Vishal for a full-fledged action flick. The plot has its base in a village. So, several rural backgrounds attract the audiences through the course of the movie. The movie has necessary elements to make it an action-packed entertainer. Since the movie has a lot of violence in it, it could manage to come out with only a U/A certificate.

The movie opens up with Vishal as a load man. He is living in a village and loves his grandmother. There is an introductory song in which Vishal exposes gym-toned physique.  Also, he shows off plenty of tattoos in the movie.  He is the perfect and the good guy in the movie. There are plenty of thugs who clash with Vishal during the course of the movie.  You can see plenty of sickles and knives in the movie, and our hero emerges victorious in fight scenes.

Star Performances

Vishal fits easily into the character of a load man, thanks to his build. The stunts he performs show him as a person with invincible power. Besides, he oozes confidence throughout the movie. Sri Divya has done her role with much sincerity. R K Suresh has done the movie’s villain, and has given an intimidating performance. His dialogue utterances and action sequences are breathtaking and hair-raising. Kulappulli Leela has done the role of Vishal’s grandmother and looks like the director has picked a rare talent. Soori is the movie’s comedian and the sense of humor sticks to the standards. Radha Ravi, who is seen in quite some films of late, does full justice to his role. R K Suresh is intimidating as the villian in the movie.

The opening scene might give the feel that it is going to be a full-fledged action movie.  But, there are lengthy romantic scenes too in the movie.    The women in the movie have been highlighted in a positive manner as the bold and the beautiful.  The director needs a salute for glorifying the womanhood.

What is there?

  • The stunt scenes choreographed by Anal Arasu are gripping.
  • The performances by the artists in the movie are laudable.
  • The comedy by Soori is good and comes as a relief in the action packed movie.
  • The movie thankfully doesn't take the melodramatic route.
  • D Imman's music complements with the tempo of the movie.

What is not there?

  • When it comes to the movie’s technicians, the output is very average.
  • The songs are mediocre.
  • One could easily make out how the next scene would unfold.

A full-fledged action flick that could prove as a feast to Vishal fans.
