CAST & CREW
Directed by Thomson, ' Proprietors: Kammath & Kammath' is a Malayalam movie, starring Mammootty, Dileep, Rima Kallingal in lead roles.
The movie is about two siblings Mammootty ( Raja Raja Kammath ) and Dileep (Deva Raja Kammath) who run a chain of eateries in the state of Kerala. To expand, they open one in Palakkad district. From here the problem begins, as the biryani restaurant in front of their restaurant is against them. The owner of this Biryani restaurant has a political background in the form of local councilor ( Suraj Venjaramoodu). The first half is about their business rivalry and by interval it is all sorted. Post- interval, the movie shifts to the problems of Sree Rekha ( Karthika Nair), sister of Municipal Secretary, Mahalakshmi (Rima Kallingal) and how Raja Raja Kammath helps in solving this problem. During this course, love blooms between them. The whole script revolves around action, love, and rivalry.
Like most of the directors, Thomson has also tried to avoid risk and follows the script and story which has done wonders in past. But this attempt by him has failed. Although he had a bunch of talent in the form of esteemed actors like Dileep and Mammootty, the script is highly predictable and has just wasted their energies. The movie lacks link between the pre - interval and post - interval plot. The movie is about business rivalry before the interval but suddenly moves to love story post interval. The Konkani flavor is there in dialogues but that has also not worked to lift up a dead script.
Talented actors Dileep and Mammootty play the lead in the movie. But we don't find anything fresh in their role. It also makes one wonder why they said yes to this boring story. Female leads Rima Kallingal, and Karthika Nair don’t have meaty roles. Dhanush is also very average in his cameo. Only Baburaj's comic role could be appreciated as he offers something to rejoice. Script by Udayakrishna and Thomas make it a tedious watch.
What's there ????
1. Acting performances by ace actors Dileep and Mammootty.
2. Music by M Jayachandran comes as a rescue to rejoice when all other technical departments fail.
What's not there ????
1. The stale script has prevented all actors from putting their best foot forward.
2. Just like male characters, female leads also required more depth in their role.
3. Konkani accent worsens the situation as the actors have failed to get hold of it.
4. Editing and direction of the movie are pathetic as many loopholes are felt between the scenes.
Don't enter movie hall with high hopes from 'Proprietors Kammath & Kammath', else you'll end up only feeling sorry for yourself.
