Plot

Neeraja is about the life of a widow. Neeraja (Shruthi Ramachandran) works as a leader in a top IT company. She marries Alex (Govind Padmasoorya), who belongs to a different caste. They live a happy life after their marriage. The love between them was so deep that they saw no one in their life except themselves. However, things turn dark for Neeraja when Alex dies in an accident. She is depressed by his death. Even after two years of his death, she is not able to forget him. She cherishes his memories by decorating the home according to Alex’s preferences.

Neeraja’s mother asks her for another marriage, but she does not agree with her. Unable to focus on her life, she takes the help of a psychologist (Guru Somasundaram), who advises him to search for a friend and talk about her needs. Things become interesting when she meets a civil engineer named Arun (Jinu Joseph). Arun is married to Meera (Srinda) and has no affection for her. As the friendship between Arun and Neeraja grows, she asks him to satisfy her physical needs.

What will Arun do now? Will he leave his wife Meera for Neeraja?

Star Performance

Shruthi Ramachandran gave a magnificent performance. She shows love, sex, and courage perfectly. The scene in which she deals with her senior colleague when he misbehaves with her is outstanding. She excellently conveys that women also have physical needs. Govind Padmasoorya appears for a short time on screen, but his chemistry with Shruti looks beautiful. Jinu Joseph looks decent on screen. His dialogue delivery and expressions are appealing to the viewers. Srinda excellently executed her part as Jinu’s wife.

Analysis

The film Neeraja is another version of the 2018 Kannada film Nathicharami, directed by Manso Re. It explores love, loyalty, sex, and courage. In recent times, this concept is rare in the Malayalam film industry.

The scenes in which Neeraja takes therapy from the psychologist depict the significance of mental health. The director perfectly depicts how sexual urges and other problems can have a negative impact on one’s mental health. The songs, music, and cinematography make the film impressive. The film finishes with a happy note, but the ending is unconvincing.

What’s There?

• Life of a widow.

• Love, loyalty, sex, and courage.

• Inspired by the 2018 Kannada film Nathicharami.

• Mental health.

• The love between Neeraja and Alex.

• Shruthi Ramachandran’s performance.

• Excellent songs and cinematography.

What’s Not There?

• Stretched scenes.

• Minor technical glitches.

• Unconvincing ending.

Verdict

The problems of widows are depicted in Neeraja. However, the story is outdated and appears to be stretched.
