Centre Challenges The Verdict On Haal

The battle over Haal has now become national.

The Union government has filed a appeal against the single bench verdict which cleared the release of the Malayalam movie. Interestingly, it wasn’t the Hindu outfits that objected to the subject of the movie. The Catholic community rose against the movie, demanding an immediate halt on the release of this movie.

Haal is not the first film to face such objections this year. L2: Empuraan was edited after release due to the huge uproar following a biased portrayal of the Gujarat riots in 2002. Apart from that, the movie Janaki vs State of Kerala had to undergo a change of title after CBFC’s objections to the same.
