Plot
The Ship Of Theseus has three stories. The first is about an influential Egyptian photographer named Aliya Kamal, she has an impaired vision and will be undergoing a cornea transplant to restore her vision. The surgery was a success and her vision was restored but instead of aiding her in her photography, her newfound sight gives her more trouble by overwhelming and confusing her.
The second story is about a Jain monk named Maitreya who advocates against animal testing by pharmaceutical companies. However, he soon falls sick and discovers that he has liver cirrhosis. This puts him in a challenging position as he has to choose between depending on animal-tested medication to cure his sickness and refusing it, letting his health deteriorate as there are no cruelty-free alternatives. He decides to starve to death rather than support an industry that depends on animal cruelty for their products.
The third story is about a young Indian boy named Navin. Navin is a stockbroker and has received a new kidney. He gets news of a case of organ theft that involves a man named Shankar, who is an impoverished bricklayer. Navin suspects that the new kidney received by him is the one that was stolen from Shankar. He finds out that the recipient of the kidney is living in Sweden and decides to go there on a mission to help Shankar get his kidney back.
These three characters all have different stories. However, one thing they have in common is that they have all got an organ transplant. Through these three stories, the film explores themes of identity, justice, beauty, life and death. The film then ends with a video of the interiors of a glittering cave and “The Platonic Allegory Of The Cave”, where the famous philosopher Plato opines that human beings are trapped in a cave, and this cave he refers to is existence itself. He believes that the only way human beings can find a way to escape the cave is through a philosopher’s guidance as it is a philosopher’s job to help them find a way out.
Star Performance
Neeraj Kabi performs excellently as an animal activist with a confident charm and a warm smile. Aida El-Kashef’s performance was beautiful.
Analysis
Pankaj Kumar’s cinematography is excellent as the film is mesmerizing to look at and makes Mumbai look more beautiful in the movie than it has looked in real life. However, even though the film features Mumbai, it does not show the authentic vibe of the city. The writing is full of profound, thought-provoking and intelligent dialogues. Gandhi’s overflowing intellect was reflected in the writing of this movie. The music used in the film truly complements the scenes. The film should have been faster as it feels unbearably slow.

Verdict
The film is beautiful but not meant for a wider audience because it has a unique idea that many might not find appealing. However, everyone must watch it as it is a good movie. You might either be the one who ends up loving it or hating it altogether.
