. The film was screened at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. The film has been dubbed and released in Hindi as Partition: 1947.
Plot
The story is about the life inside the Viceroy’s House during the Indian independence. The plot deals with how the last British viceroy of India Lord Louis Mountbatten dealt with the partition of India during the independence. The plot also deals with the love story of a Hindu man and a Muslim woman, who served in the Viceroy’s House. Their love story gets another character, the woman’s fiancé.
Star Performance
Om Puri’s performance as a blind father of Huma Qureshi impresses the audiences. The rest of the cast has done as directed but could not be said that they are perfect.
Analysis
Gurinder Chadha has tried to bring out a different angle of the partition. The film seems to be an ambitious project of Gurinder and it is a well scripted and well-executed project. Jinnah wants a separate Muslim country whereas Gandhi and Nehru want undivided India. Along with the political conflicts, a mild love story is laced. Although we have seen a lot of such partition based stories, Gurinder Chadha’s script is a bit different. The script reveals the incidents from the eyes of an Indian mother. A good try by Gurinder Chadha!

Verdict
Viceroy’s House doesn’t deal much with the Indian independence struggle but with the incidents that happened inside the Viceroy’s house. If you are a person, who love to watch historical films, then this film might satisfy you.
