His movie Tumbbad was the first Indian film to open the prestigious Venice critics week section of the 75th Venice international film festival. In 2019 it was awarded as the best film in Cinema Asia and screamfest horror film fest in the USA.
He also got the best director award in 2018 at the Sitges film festival, nomination for best director at Filmfare awards and Critics choice film awards in 2019. His film was featured in the 25 greatest Hindi films of the decade and he was chosen as the 25 prime innovators in entertainment by the national entertainment portal. ‘Thondi’ and ‘Rayalaseema Express’ are his outstanding flicks. His earlier film ‘Thondi’ hit the theatres.
