Luv Ranjan brings out another of his bromance movies after his freak success of the Pyaar KA Punchnama sequels.
An overemotional rich brat, Titu, is very susceptible to a woman’s charms and needs his best friend Sonu to protect him from airheads and gold diggers. Ultimately Titu wants to get married because he is bored of his bachelor life. And then enters Sweety. She seems perfect in all respects. But Sonu is dead set on finding some of her fatal flaws. And so begins the battle of determination and wits between Sonu and Sweety. Is Sonu able to uncover Sweety’ s flaw or does Sweety get the guy? Find out the ending.
Luv Ranjan and his movies are very well known to always portray his women as a villain and in a negative light. His standards for a good woman are too high. The director, Writer and co-producer, Luv Ranjan, has taken his misogynistic views a little too far. According to him, the women are either clingy or dependent gold diggers or booze drinking air heads, who almost always have an agenda behind being with a guy. Though, it should be said that, his flair for comedy almost makes us all sit up and enjoy the movie instead of giving too much stress on the theme. The witty remarks and the sharp dialogues have long since proved to be his repertoire. The competitive game of one-upmanship becomes the building block of the entire movie. Although the scenes and dialogues are very edgy and have cutting repartees, it fails to take our attention away from the fact that there can be no perfect woman. This theme is consistent with his other films where the movie was based on how every woman is screwed up and selfish for her own right. Though we are already very familiar with the degrading wife jokes, this movie takes it a level too far. In Ranjan’s world, women are nothing but cunning, scheming villains and that the bromance always wins out in the end. The cinematography, the songs, the background score, is all very excellently done by an outstanding crew. The movie has all the elements of a great entertainer, but the script stands out like a sore thumb.
Kartik Aryan single-handedly takes the acting quotient of the film above charts. He is one of the most underrated stars in Bollywood. The way he delivers his lines and his body language makes him the magnetic feature of any movie. Nushrat Bharucha might not have a lot of acting variance, but she is perfect for the role of Sweety, no one could have done it better. Sunny Singh and the rest of the supporting cast with Alok Nath as the swanky grandfather and Virendra Saxena as his friend are also delightful. You cannot find faults with their acting instead that is one of the dimensions that create the comic scenes.
1) Witty dialogues
2) Comic scenes
3) Foot tapping songs
4) Great direction and acting
What’s not there?
1) Casts women in too much of a negative light
2) A lot of logic mishaps
Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety is great fun with the right amount of laughs and tensions, but the film isn’t for everyone. It is sure to raise the eyebrows of a lot of feminists.
