Plot

Ashish Kapoor Ashish Kapoor is a Delhi based TV serial actor. He >> Read More... , played by Ram Kapoor is an Indian billionaire who escaped to London after duping Indian banks of twenty thousand crores. He escaped without paying his employees salaries from the past few months but enjoys a lavish lifestyle in London. Ashish Kapoor planned his birthday party to be held in a grand 500 year old Scottish castle with just a handful of guests. On his birthday, because of a dangerous storm everyone is confined in the castle. At his birthday party, Ashish declares that he will surrender to Indian government and will have to turn over all of his properties to Indian government. He introduces CBI Officer Meera Rao, played by Vidya Balan, as the officer who will arrest him along with Scotland Yard which will arrive when the storm calms down. After a heated exchange with his son Ryan, played by Shashank Arora, Ashish goes out for some fresh air but falls to his death. His friend Zara, played by Niki Walia, notices his body off-shore. Meera Rao concludes that his death was a murder and not a suicide and then begins her investigation to ascertain the murderer. But it is not an easy task as everyone had their own motive to kill Ashish.

Star Performance

Vidya Balan gives a good performance as the smart and swift CBI Officer. Ram Kapoor performs very well as a business tycoon and a hopeful father. Shashank Arora gives a stellar performance as the greedy, druggie son. The rest of the cast also gives good performances.

Analysis

As a murder mystery film, “Neeyat” should have had more suspense. The cast performs well. The set is spectacular and the camera work is delightful.

Verdict

“Neeyat” is a good attempt at being a murder mystery thriller but gets thwarted by its attempts at being explanatory with its numerous character introductions and flashbacks. The plot should have incorporated more suspense and twists to make it an entertaining thriller film. The performances are also quite mediocre as the characters feel one-dimensional. So, “Neeyat” would be a good watch for thriller, murder mystery enthusiasts and for Vidya Balan’s fans.
