Childhood is full of innocence, honesty, and fearlessness -just what forms the basis of another masterpiece from NageshKukunoor, Dhanak – a never-ending road trip in the journey of life.

Plot Dhanak is a story of two young kids Pari and Chhotu struggling (read: enjoying) their trip to get Chhotu’s eyesight back. Both the siblings live with their aunt who has adopted them, quite unwillingly. Chhotu is visually impaired, and Pari is not only his sister but a friend and guide also. Pari promises him that she’ll get Chhotu’s eyesight back before he blows candles on his ninth birthday. With the birthday approaching nearer, she is in all haste to gift him the ‘light of his life’. Both of them happen to be ardent fans of Bollywood, but only on contrasting ends.

Pari is a die-hard fan of Shahrukh Khan and Chhotu, is a devoted follower of Salman Khan Salman Khan is a very famous Indian actor and a pr >> Read More... . Pari, while their usual stroll to the school, sees a poster where Shah Rukh Khan Shah Rukh Khan or also known as SRK is a prominent >> Read More... is seen encouraging eye donation. She writes and sends a multitude of letters requesting him for help, but all goes in vain. It is then that she comes to know about his movie shooting schedule in Rajasthan. With sheer determination to get Chhotu’s eyesight and immense love for her star, both of them set foot on a long journey traversing across the state. The duo meet a number of people belonging to all walks of life and aid them in reaching their destination. Do they make it to the place? Or do they have to take a long walk back with nadir? It is all in the film itself.

Analysis The movie is made on an obvious theme with an unobvious role-play. The audience is bound by the movie whether it is their struggle to fetch transport or whether witnessing the sand-canvas of the mighty desert in Rajasthan. It is based on a single word with uncountable interpretations –belief. Pari’s belief that Shahrukh will get her brother’s eyesight back. Chhotu’s belief that his sister will make him see the world after nine long years. Moreover, the movie has been put in a simple and much subtle way. Without much ado to the walk-in-walk-out characters, Dhanak has already made its mark here.

Star Performances Dhanak sports two kids who have indeed acted beyond their age. Krishh Chhabaria as Chhotu and Hetal Gada as Pari have pulled out the roles unexpectedly. Their delivery and composure can sure beat many big-shots in the industry. On the sidelines, Flora Saini and Bharti Achrekar, who portray Kalbeliatribal women, have done justice to the roles.Further, Vibha Chhibber portrayed as a fraudulent and self-styled Hindu god-woman Maata Sheera Wali has also taken a satirical hit on all those religious-chauvinists. Suresh Menon Suresh Menon was born on 10th January 1967 in Mumb >> Read More... , who is known for his gay-roles, is seen as a mute man in the movie.

What’s there?

1. Truth and acting which will sure make you crave for such movies.

2. The chemistry between Pari and Chhotu is all set to make you nostalgic.

3. A number of interesting and funny characters who fit right in the puzzle.

4. Die-hard fan following of the two Khans.

5. Drooling sand-canvas of Rajasthan aptly depicted in the road trip.

What’s not there?

1. The duo’s past is not tapped much, as to why both of them lived along with their aunt who doesn’t seem to like them even one bit? Or as to what caused Chhotu’s eyesight impairment?

2. Musical pieces are pretty less in number; wherein the genre demands more of it.

3. The movie has many similarities in the screenplay as in Dor.

Verdict Dhanak is an unorthodox movie in its genre. It taps on your nostalgic-nerve and craves you for your childhood. In a long list of films released during the same period, it is a must watch.
