Plot
The film is based on a H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name and follows the Gardner family. Nathan Gardner, played by Nicholas Cage, moved his wife Theresa, played by Joely Richardson, and their three children Benny, played by Brendan Meyer, Lavinia, played by Madeleine Arthur, and Jack, played by Julian Hilliard, to his father’s farm to live a peaceful life after his wife’s mastectomy. One day, a brightly colored meteorite lands in their front yard, and the mayor of Arkham and hydrologist Ward Philips, played by Elliot Knight, arrive to see the meteorite; but the meteorite evaporates into thin air in front of their eyes. Upon examination, Ward Philips found that the water in the well on the farm has been contaminated and advised the family not to consume it. Slowly, the entire Gardner family was being infected by the meteorite, which appeared as brightly colored flashes sometimes. The film follows the nightmarish hell the Gardner family suffered because of the meteorite.
Star Performance
Madeleine Arthur shined as Lavinia Gardner, and should have been given more screen time. Nicholas Cage delivers a stellar performance as usual. Joely Richardson, Brendan Meyer, and Julian Hilliard also perform well.
