Plot
Mandy Bloom and Red Miller are both alcoholics and drug addicts. Red works as a logger. Mandy works as a day job cashier in a gas station. Mandy is Red’s girlfriend. Red admires Mandy’s artwork. One day when going to work, Mandy walks past a truck called Children of the New Dawn. Children of the New Dawn is a religious cult led by Jeremiah Sand. Jeremiah is amazed by Mandy's beauty. He got obsession with Mandy. He orders his Brother Swan to call Mandy to him. Swan seeks help from Black Skulls to summon Mandy. Black Skull kidnaps Mandy and ties Red with the use of a wire. Before presenting Mandy to Jeremiah, Mother Marlene, and Sister Lucy has forcefully fed Mandy drugs. Jeremiah tries to seduce Mandy. But Mandy laughs at his acts. This hurts his ego. He stabs Red, and burns Mandy alive and leaves. Red somehow escapes, and he sees the ashes of Mandy. He is now furious and wants to take revenge on them. What will happen to Red? Will he be able to put revenge on them? The rest of the story deals with it.
Star Performance
Nicholas Cage did an incredible performance in the film. His action scenes were thrilling. His detailing of the character was outstanding. His acting and dialogue delivery was perfect. One would love him after watching this movie. That much impact he made in the whole film. Andrea Riseborough did a fantastic performance in the movie. She shows the nature of a drug addict. Her acting was factual and natural. Her role was only in the first half but she still made a great impact. Linus Roache did a remarkable performance in the film. One would hate him after watching this movie. That much impact he made in the film. All the other actors were as good as the main lead actors.
Analysis
The storyline of the film was great, thrilling, interesting, and terrifying —the film focus on the central theme of addiction and obsession. The horror nature of the movie is maintained from the start till the end. The storyline in the film was interesting. The direction, cinematography, and costume design were perfect in the movie. The action scenes in the movie were the best part of the film. The film's first half was slow but started building the storyline in the later part. The film has so many disturbing scenes which make the audience uncomfortable. The background music and songs play a significant role in the movie. The dialogues were excellent.
