Plot
During the 1930s in Oklahoma, a young mother, Margaret, had been living with her daughters, Rose and Ollie. Rose is 12 years old and Ollie, the 7-year-old has a hearing disability. Margaret had another daughter, Ada, who died due to scarlet fever. Like all other residents, this family also feared dust storms, along with famine and deaths due to diseases. Margaret has a sister-in-law who is also fighting along with her family to survive. Amidst this, Margaret meets a stranger, Wallace Grady, who calls himself a healer assures that he will help Ollie gain her hearing ability and also says that he has cured a chronic illness of Rose. What is his connection with them? How will they all survive? The rest of the story deals with these.
Star Performance
Sarah Paulson has done an incredible job as Margaret. Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s performance is excellent. Amiah and Alona supported Sarah with their wonderful performances. All the lead stars fit well in the emotional roles and did justice with their performances. The rest of the stars have done their part well.
Analysis
The film has a simple yet emotional script with an excellent star cast. The casting team and the production design team are appreciable for their beautiful efforts. While the casting team picked talented artists, the sets made by the production design team are impressive. They brought the 1930s era before the eyes. The costume and make-up departments have put enough effort to compete with the production designers. The background music is decent. The visuals are fantastic.
