From the maker of the very accomplished maker of “
Ted
”, comes a similar kind of comedy by Seth MacFarlane that tries so very less to make you even giggle with its repeated jokes and nude flashes, without bothering to create a logical plot to make the movie coherent.
Plot: This movie has been set in 1882 in American West, and it is about Albert Stark, a sheepherder who has just got dumped by his girlfriend. However, soon enough, a new mysterious woman comes into town, and Albert can’t help but fall for her as she tries to point out how good a person he is and teaches him how to be an expert gunslinger. Things take an unfavorable turn as this lady’s scorned husband is in town, and now it is time for Albert to prove him his worth. This would turn out to be a very tricky task as people in the town are dying in so many different ways all the time, that it’s almost tough just to stay alive.
MacFarlane casting himself as the lead actor in the movie is a definitely a very bold move that turns out to be a very wrong one since he completely fails to attract the attention of the audience as the mild-hearted cowboy. In fact, his demeanor is such that it does not convince anyone that his jokes in the movie are at all funny. The quality of the dialogues and the whole overall script is what seems to be bringing the whole movie down, since some of the performances, like
Neil Patrick Harris
and also
Sarah Silverman
, even in spite of all other disasters.
The movie is filled with inappropriate jokes and completely senseless one-liners that are not nearly capable of making a single person in a theater full of people laugh. The pace of the movie is incredibly rugged and dry and the fact that it extends for so long does not help at all. Moreover, the setup of each and every joke and punchline is so vague and out of context, that it seems impossible to tag along with the story.
Verdict: To this mindless Western-style comedy that looks more like the gag reel than the actual movie, I give this movie 1 out of 5 victories.
