‘Indian 2’ was released on the OTT platform Netflix. However, the Multiplex Association of India has threatened to sue the makers of ‘Indian 2’.
According to the guidelines, there should be a minimum gap of eight weeks between the theatrical release of the film and its OTT release. However, less than a month after its release on 12 July, ‘Indian 2’ began streaming in multiple languages on the OTT platform, Netflix on 9 August. This is why the Multiplex Association of India has decided to take legal action against ‘Indian 2’.
‘Indian 2’ movie was the sequel to the iconic classic from 1996, ‘Indian’, also directed by Shankar. Like Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar 2’, the movie aimed to ride on the wave of nostalgia and hit the jackpot. However, the film underperformed at the box office, earning merely 150 crores worldwide compared to a huge budget of at least 300 crores.
With that, both S Shankar and Kamal Haasan are rethinking their priorities. Shankar has delayed his Telugu debut ‘Game Changer’ once again, while Kamal Haasan is just focusing on his upcoming production ‘
