Has The Government Brought The Cinema Ticket Price Under Control?

Arun Jaitley, the Union Minister announced that the GST for the cinema tickets are reduced to 18% from 28%. When the government announced 28% of GST to cinema tickets, Kamal Haasan, “Vijayakanth” and various cinema organizations condemned this. They stated that this would increase the piracy and will make the film industry diminish. Following the pressure from various film industries, the central government reduced it to 18%. But, it is announced that the tickets that are sold below Rs. 100 will be charged 18% and above 100 will be charged 28% of GST. The film chamber of commerce’s chief, Abirami Ramanathan thanked the CM “Edappadi K Palaniswami,” Ministers D Jayakumar and Kadambur Raju for their efforts to bring down the GST upon the request of film chamber of commerce.
