Kamal Haasan may be down after ‘Indian 2’, but he is far from out!
According to the recent reports, Kamal Haasan is ensuring that his reunion with Mani Ratnam is noticed by one and all. The digital rights have been acquired in a mega deal by the OTT streaming giant Netflix, for a whopping 150 crores.
‘Thug Life’ marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after 36 years, their last collaboration being the cult classic being ‘Nayagan’, which was loosely based on underworld don Vardharajan Mudaliar.
Kamal Haasan seems to be playing a role inspired by his character in ‘Nayakan’, since he introduced himself as Rangarajan Sakthivel Naicker in the announcement video of ‘Thug Life’.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie stars Kamal Haasan in the lead role, alongside an ensemble cast including actors like Silambarasan TR, Abhirami, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Nasser etc. This film also marks the Tamil debut of Ali Fazal, best known for his role of student turned gangster Guddu Pandit in the OTT web series ‘Mirzapur’.
The film is expected to release around the end of 2025 or early 2026, if everything goes right. Apart from the above, Kamal Haasan is also expecting some success from the patriotic drama ‘Amaran’, which will be produced under his banner of Raaj Kamal Films International, and stars Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose, and Bhuvan Arora in prominent roles.
