Image Plot The movie is set in Bihar, which is now a part of Jharkhand. It takes place in the pre-independence era. As the title suggests, Gangs of Wasseypur is a movie about gangsters. The film started with a four-minute take showing some Hindi soap and then pulled into a lane, where gangs were looking for a man, gunning down everyone in their path. Then the tension becomes too much to bear; the film is being forwarded for the next five hours.  After the opening which was set in the present, the story goes into flashback.
