Afsar Babu is counted among the brigade of talented and veteran actors in the Tamil film and television industry. He is considered the thespian actor who has proved his mettle in films, television serials as well as in the field of Tamil theatre. Born in a remote village in Tamil Nadu, Afsar Babu moved to his city of dreams- Chennai, during his student life and after completing his studies, he joined Govt. service primarily to earn his living. He is married and has two children. Afsar Babu decided to pursue his acting dreams and entered the industry in the year 1987. This is the time he became an active theatre artist and from the stage, he landed with offers to play supporting character roles with a comic touch in various Tamil movies and few movies in other South Indian languages.

Afsar Babu’s first breakthrough role in Tamil serial was in blockbuster Tamil television serial Anandham, which earned him name and fame. The story of Anandham was a typical family drama soap with a strong social message related to women empowerment in today’s society and Afsar Babu in this serial, essayed the role of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. His performance in this serial was well received and appreciated by the audiences. Afsar Babu then went on to appear in several Tamil serials in many notable, pivotal roles including the hit and classic television serials like Thendral, Selvi, etc. Recently, he appeared in the interactive celebrity talk show Kelvi Paathi Kindal Paathi, which aired on the youth based Tamil channel Puthuyugam TV.
